Community Prevention Initiative Webinars
The California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP) is pleased to announce the award of the Community Prevention Initiative (CPI). A project funded and directed by the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP). The purpose of the CPI, as outlined by ADP, is "to reduce and manage community-level risks and problems directly attributable to and/or collaterally resulting from ATOD availability, manufacture, distribution, promotion, sale and/or use."

TRAINING POLICIES - PLEASE READ

1. Training Policy re: Enrollment - Effective 2-05-10:  If a training is full and you have not officially enrolled in the training, you may arrive at the training and wait to find out if you can fill the spot of a "no show."  If all official enrollees attend, it is possible that you may be turned away and will not be able to attend the training. This is primarily due to space and resource limitations. Please do not advise staff or foster parents to "just show up," unless you also inform them of this policy. 

2. Training Policy re: Tardiness - Effective 7-01-10:  It is very important to arrive to trainings on time. It is at the discretion of the trainer, the Training Coordinator and/or the HR Supervisor to decide if a late attendee (15 minutes or more) will receive training credit.

CPR/First Aid

DESCRIPTION: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a procedure to support and maintain breathing and circulation for a person who has stopped breathing (respiratory arrest) and/or whose heart has stopped (cardiac arrest). First Aid is emergency aid or treatment given to someone injured, suddenly ill, etc., before regular medical services arrive or can be reached.

Cultural Competency
 
DESCRIPTION: Cultural Competence refers to an ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures. Cultural competence comprises four components: (a) awareness of one's own cultural worldview, (b) attitude towards cultural differences, (c) knowledge of different cultural practices and worldviews, and (d) cross-cultural skills. Developing cultural competence results in an ability to understand, communicate with, and effectively interact with people across cultures. 
This training uses many examples, stories and group exercises to assist participants to learn and understand the complexities of this topic, especially in regards to the workplace. 
It is REQUIRED that all staff complete this training annually.

Defensive Driving
 
DESCRIPTION:  A comprehensive classroom course designed for experienced drivers of passenger cars and/or standard vans. It offers practical strategies to reduce collision-related injuries, fatalities, and costs. This course addresses the importance of attitude in preventing crashes, and reinforces the good driving skills students already have, and shows students the consequences of the choices they make behind the wheel. Topics include: Rules, Regulations and Responsibility; Driving Conditions; Unsafe Driving Behaviors; Aggressive Driving vs. Road Rage.

Ethics Boundaries & Professionalism
 
DESCRIPTION: This training deals with specifically identifying and setting appropriate boundaries, as well as recognizing and adopting a professional demeanor in the work place. This training will also discuss aspects related to being more culturally aware and sensitive to our co-workers and to the clients we serve.
No in-person trainings are currently scheduled. Staff: please refer to the online training by Elevate to complete this training. This training is required annually.
 
 
Harassment Prevention
 
DESCRIPTION:  All RCS non-supervisory employees are required to attend an annual Sexual Harassment training.  This training will focus on appropriate steps and measures to take to avoid and deal with harassment in the workplace. This training will also review Sexual Harassment policies and procedures.
No in-person trainings are currently scheduled. Staff: please refer to the online training by Elevate to complete this training. This training is required annually.
 
 
HIPAA/Confidentiality
 
DESCRIPTION: HIPAA is the acronym of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.  The focus of this training will be the privacy and security standards of HIPAA which: 1) protect the confidentiality and integrity of individually identifiable health information; 2) guarantee the rights of individuals to have more control over such information; and 3) establish standards for the security of electronic protected health information.

Mandated Reporter
 
DESCRIPTION: Mandated reporters are professionals who, in the ordinary course of their work and because they have regular contact with children, disabled persons, senior citizens, or other identified vulnerable populations, are required to report (or cause a report to be made) whenever financial, physical, sexual or other types of abuse has been observed or is suspected, or when there is evidence of neglect, knowledge of an incident, or an imminent risk of serious harm. This training will review what it means to be a Mandated Reporter, what constitutes “reasonable suspicion of abuse,” as well as definitions of abuse.

Pro-Act Initial Training (20 HRS)
 
DESCRIPTION: The Pro-ACT® program is designed to provide professionals with the opportunity to develop necessary understanding and skills to avoid or reduce the need for restraint. Pro-ACT® principles focus on maintaining the safety and dignity of the client while keeping everyone safe. The ultimate goal is to help clients learn alternative methods for meeting their needs and developing self-control.

Water Safety Certification
DESCRIPTION: Playing in the water can be fun, whether it be swimming, boating or diving. It can also be dangerous, especially for children. This training instructs participants on how to be safe and take precautions, in order to prevent injuries or drowning. NOTE: No training hours will be accrued for this training, per Community Care Licensing.
